Weird Genius’ New Music Video Celebrates Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Indonesian electronic music trio Weird Genius recently released a music video commemorating the fifth anniversary of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). This follows their collaboration with esports players for the MPL X Legends Assemble match last October. The video, which blends electronic music with traditional Indonesian instruments, was streamed live during the match itself.

A Fusion of Music and Gaming

The music video showcases four of Weird Genius’ most popular songs: ‘Dawn of the Moon,’ ‘Future Ghost,’ ‘Peanut Butter,’ and ‘Lathi.’ Sponsored by Resso Indonesia, the performance has already garnered nearly 150,000 views, a testament to the group’s popularity in Indonesia. Watch the video below:

Weird Genius’ Rise to Fame

Weird Genius achieved significant recognition in 2020 with the release of ‘Lathi,’ a collaboration with Surabaya-based singer Sara Fajira. The song, incorporating Javanese lyrics, became a viral sensation, accumulating 123 million views on YouTube and an additional 749 million views on TikTok. The success of ‘Lathi,’ along with other songs featured in the new music video, clearly demonstrates the group’s unique sound and influence within the Indonesian music scene.

A History of Esports Collaborations

This isn’t Weird Genius’ first foray into the world of esports. In 2019, they partnered with Singaporean singer Tabitha Nauser on the song ‘All In’ for the Indonesian mobile launch of Riot Games’ ‘League of Legends: Wild Rift.’
