At the Gravity Art Space in Quezon City, the DJ-drummer superduo Motherbasss, which comprises of Nix Damn P and Macky Brillantes (of the hip hop ensemble Stick Figgas), celebrated their decade of mayhem with their close friends last Friday! Roxy Modesto, a superb saxophonist who appeared during Motherbasss’s set, Ron Henley, Red-I, Extra! Extra! and DJs from Very Done were just some of the acts that were brought together by Motherbasss to create a full and diverse lineup of acts that took place across two stages.
The evening was rich with a variety of atmospheres, from spectacular paintings to diverse reverberation. The night was a resounding success. It’s like several forms of art and culture were mashed together into a moment in life to remember.
The inception of Motherbasss was an interesting story, as Nix and Macky went to the same grade school and even college, albeit they weren’t close and only met on night outs on occasionally. I suppose fate got in the way one night while they were out with mutual friends. They caught up on one other’s musical preferences and ideas over a drink, jammed out, and had their first gig a week later.
We didn’t even have a name yet. We stuck to our guns and established ourselves as this DJ and drummer live act hitting clubs, festivals and other gatherings across the PH

It is not every day that a creative tandem like Motherbasss gets the opportunity to commemorate ten years of being a force to be reckoned with while keeping it perfectly preserved and being true to their concept. Ten years of trial and error, and they experienced both success and failure along the way, but in the end, they were able to maintain their competitive edge in an industry that is always evolving.
