The Barbie will be included in the Barbie Dream Gap Project, which will place Barbie dolls in more than 200 different occupations.
This is part of a new initiative to encourage more girls to pursue careers in the music industry and to “shed light on the significance of women’s participation in the industry.”
Developed in collaboration with Grammy-nominated music producer, songwriter, singer/actress Ester Dean, this toy is intended to inspire more young women to pursue a career in the music industry. Girls Make Beats is an organization dedicated to increasing the number of female music producers, DJs, and audio engineers in order to encourage more young women to pursue a career in the music industry.
Currently, Barbie is a sponsor of the Girls Make Beats scholarship program, which aims to increase female representation in the music industry through financial assistance.
The music industry is frequently criticized for being overly male-dominated, and statistics show that in the United States, 98 percent of music producers were men, with women accounting for only 2 percent of the group.
As the Career of the Year doll, the doll is being sold online, and the toy comes with a variety of trendy accessories and clothes, including a laptop, headphones, a digital audio machine, and a graphic T-shirt.
Girls Make Beats will be hosting a live webinar with Barbie, and guest star Ester Dean, in which they will introduce girls to the world of the music industry and what it entails.
Producer Ester Dean expressed her delight at having the opportunity to lend her voice to Barbie in order to encourage young girls to pursue a career in music production.
It costs $15 to purchase one of the new dolls on the website.
