Numark is releasing a full standalone DJ system for only $600. No, a laptop, flash drive, or speakers are not required. All it needs is WiFi.
There are millions of tracks available on TIDAL, Soundcloud, Beatport, Beatsource, and even your personal DropBox, and it has access to them. You can still connect to your own personal collection of offline music using the USB or SD ports on your computer. The Numark Mixstream Pro, on the other hand, eliminates the need to do so.
The system includes a 7-inch touch screen, 6-inch jog wheels, four built-in speakers, a three-band EQ, two channel filters, and all of this is contained within a single solid unit. It has Ableton Link support, which allows it to sync with external software such as drum machines and sequencers. Additionally, it includes basic effects, performance pads, balanced XLR outputs, as well as microphone and headphone jacks, among other features. You can even connect it to your home’s Philips Hue lighting system to sync the two together.
80 percent of DJs still have their own collection of songs on an external hard drive, according to a recent survey. This new product heralds the possibility of a shift away from CDs and toward streaming as a means of lowering the high barriers to becoming a DJ. The Numark Mixstream pro is ready to use right out of the box, and it operates on the “stream first, download later” principle, as described above.
It is anticipated that this product will be available on the Numark website within the next few weeks. They’ve put together a 90-minute tutorial for those who want to get the most out of the tool possible.
