Jezrelle’s Musical Versatility: From Bedroom DJ to Big Room Techno
Cebuano artist Jezrelle, known for his unpredictable style, recently released a big room techno track titled ‘close to you,’ blending classic and contemporary sounds. This release begs the question: what has he been up to?
From Bedroom DJ to the Midnight Rebels
Jezrelle is a familiar name in the producer community, consistently uploading music. He shared his journey, revealing that his foray into the nightlife scene as a DJ came later than anticipated. He describes the challenges of marketing himself as a DJ.
“Back then, it was really hard for me to get gigs because I was still young and I thought who would even let me in? I was very rigid about the music I liked, but I really wanted to be a DJ. I just always thought I wasn’t ready because I knew from observation alone as a spectator that it’s a rough scene and with the limited taste in music of the people here, I wasn’t confident that they would relate. I still firmly believe that I’m an artist first, but little by little I’m also learning to adjust.”
Our team first met Jezrelle two years ago during a Cebu tour. He remained in contact, and we invited him to join us on a subsequent tour. His enthusiasm and love for music resonated with the team, leading to an official invitation to join Midnight Rebels.
“Jezrelle, in a nutshell, is pretty well-rounded during tours and out-of-town gigs. He makes sure the team stays hydrated and drunk while also writing proposals for future events. Negative thing about him, he has a tendency to lose things, such as a wallet and his underwear that had 5,000 pesos. Overall, he’s a pretty chill dude who gets along easily with everyone.”

Since then, Jezrelle has broadened his involvement, writing articles, covering shows, producing music, and joining tours. He reflects on his recent rise:
“I was a bit doubtful too. I was just DJing in my bedroom a few months ago, and then opportunities started pouring in. I was invited for the Mindanao Tour, got a residency, and also scored gigs in other locations in the city. Over time, I’ve become more comfortable performing, but there’s still that doubt. However, I never hesitate to include some unexpected sounds, while also maintaining a balance and giving the crowd what they want to hear.”

Exploring Deeper Sounds
Jezrelle’s track, ‘close to you,’ released under his label KLKTVE, draws inspiration from artists like SaberZ, Maddix, Marie Vaunt, and KSHMR. While known for his high-energy big room techno, this latest release shows a deeper exploration of the genre, incorporating elements of other styles. He explains his exploration of deeper sounds:
“I mean I have been making the same type of music for nearly a decade, but I’m actually trying to venture into the deeper sounds of dance music. Revisiting old styles, absorbing new sounds, and trying to come up better. Goal is just trying to stay fresh and still show out that I can still do this and I’m happier when I get to make new stuff.”
As Jezrelle approaches a decade in music, he’s pushing creative boundaries. ‘Close to you’ demonstrates his willingness to experiment and evolve. His exploration of deeper dance music promises even more innovative tracks from this rising artist.
