[ EXCERPT ]

The results are in! After evaluating technical production and visual synergy, we proudly announce the winners of the Signal Breach competition. Meet the Filipino producers set to perform at the upcoming festival.

The bass has settled, the visuals have synced, and the verdict is in.

We launched SIGNAL BREACH with one goal: to find the next generation of Filipino production talent capable of tearing down the Midnight Rebels and &FRIENDS fest. The level of creativity, technical grit, and raw energy displayed by our contenders was nothing short of incredible.

After a rigorous evaluation of production quality, audience impact, and visual synchronization, we are thrilled to announce the official winners of the SIGNAL BREACH audio-visual competition! We also note that during this process, 4 entries were denied due to the use of AI.

TOP 3 EVALUATIONS

1. NERF and FLSHBNG (Tied for 1st – 70 Points)

  • Both artists showed great prowess in production with highlighted bass house tracks, featuring quality transitions, clean mixes, and high-energy arrangements.
  • NERF (70 points) delivered excellent transient shaping on drums, preventing phase cancellation between the kick tail and sub-bass, alongside synth shots.
  • FLSHBNG (70 points) utilized aggressive multi-band compression, using heavy OTT styling to get screaming leads right in the listener’s face.
  • NERF Score breakdown: Music Production: 42 pts., Audience Engagement: 20 pts., Visual Creativity: 8 pts.
  • FLSHBNG Score breakdown: Music Production: 45 pts., Audience Engagement: 20 pts., Visual Creativity: 5 pts.

2. Chad Nico (68 Points)

  • Chad Nico displayed quality aggression on a hybrid trap spin with a strong main hook, though the experimental ear-candy frequencies were a slight hit or miss.
  • The low-end management and infectious groove quantization were great, though the track could benefit from elevated production value using automated spatial texturing to contrast the mono space.
  • Score breakdown: Music Production: 33 pts., Audience Engagement: 30 pts., Visual Creativity: 5 pts..

3. Kerozcene (60 Points)

  • Kerozcene delivered a speed house and bass track that accounts for great originality.
  • The sound design relies heavily on hyper-modulated FM/wavetable patches, and the grit delivers through and through.
  • However, mid-range frequencies get too crowded or muddy when the basslines shift, suggesting a need for space for all elements to breathe.
  • Score breakdown: Music Production: 39 pts., Audience Engagement: 15 pts., Visual Creativity: 6 pts..

ADDITIONAL CONTESTANT EVALUATIONS

4. RE:DSCVR (59 Points)

  • Music Production: 22 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 30 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 7 pts.
  • This submission excels in its use of dynamic range and atmospheric spacing, creating an immersive, cinematic world that easily pulls the casual listener into its narrative. To elevate the track further, tighter control over the sub-bass frequencies and sidechain compression would clean up the low-end mud, allowing the main groove to hit with even greater clarity.

5. HRZON (54 Points)

  • Music Production: 29 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 20 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 5 pts.
  • The artist demonstrates a strong grasp of catchy hooks and harmonic layering, delivering a mainstream-accessible sound that immediately gets stuck in your head. From a technical standpoint, the vocal processing feels slightly over-compressed; backing off the threshold would restore the natural emotion and breathing room needed to balance the heavy synthesizer backing.

6. Don Rentrix (52 Points)

  • Music Production: 7 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 40 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 5 pts.
  • There is a sense of rhythmic syncopation here, offering a fast-paced beat structure that keeps dancefloor enthusiasts on their toes. However, the scaling may not be the same to the leads and the tonal kick, and the composition suffers from a predictable arrangement and stock percussive fills that generic dance music tracks have overused.

7. Dio FJCB (50 Points)

  • Music Production: 15 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 30 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 5 pts.
  • While the track feels polished, the sound design relies heavily on highly recognizable, off-the-shelf preset sounds and chord progressions that have dominated the genre for years. To truly break away from a generic signature, the artist needs to move past standard sample packs and inject true character.

8. EZ Eppii (49 Points)

  • Music Production: 23 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 20 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 6 pts.
  • The track showcases a highly energetic, club-ready arrangement utilizing crisp, aggressive transient design on the percussion to pierce through the mix. While the rhythm is undeniably infectious for general listeners, a bit more melodic variation across the phrasing would help prevent the arrangement from feeling static over an extended duration.

9. Tritonez (36 Points)

  • Music Production: 20 pts.
  • Audience Engagement: 10 pts.
  • Visual Creativity: 6 pts.
  • The track thrives on a cohesive arrangement, driving a massive energy that instantly commands a crowd’s attention. The energy is there, but the musical taste feels formulaic; swapping out the generic, buzzy saw leads for layered, atypical analog textures and changing up the rhythmic phrasing on the second drop would shift this from a standard background club track into a memorable artist statement.
