WALKMAN MUSIC PLAYER DOCKS YOUR SMARTPHONES LIKE A CASSETTE PLAYER, REVIVING OLD MEMORIES

Who can forget the nostalgia of rewinding the same song on the good old Walkman cassette player over and over again. That’s something that every millennial remembers from their childhood. After all that, we now have the smartphone to cater to our entire music listening needs (unless you’re a hardcore audiophile) – with virtually all of the music available on the planet just a finger swipe away from our fingertips. Since the popularity of cassette tapes and cassette players peaked in the late 1980s, there has been a significant shift in technological advancement.

In modern times, the analog side of gadgets has almost completely disappeared, and the digital age has completely eclipsed the appeal of most classic items. When applied to any kind of domain, analog technology has proven to be more than just a fad – it is a thriving culture that has been evolving for hundreds of years. The Walkman SSS (Smart Sound System) by Ja Heon Lee demonstrates that it is possible, fusing together the latest digital technology with old-school design to satisfy the lust for music in a unique form factor. Opened like any other analog cassette player, the Sony Walkman docks the smartphone so that the screen of the smartphone is facing outwards. A cassette tape-like animation appears on the information screen of the compatible music player app, displaying information about the music in the form of song titles and artist names.

On top of the music player, there is a detachable multi-controller, which serves as an interface for controlling the music, making important phone calls, and viewing lyrics on the fly as needed. All of this is happening while your smartphone is safely tucked inside the Walkman. This is similar to a digital detox for all of the screen time, with the added bonus of being able to see the music being played through the pseudo cassette player. It will undoubtedly transport you to pleasant memories stored in your subconscious mind, bringing back memories of simpler times.
