TLDR: Ableton Live 12, What’s New?

Ableton Live 12 is the upcoming major release of Ableton’s popular digital audio workstation (DAW). It is scheduled for release in early 2024, and existing Live owners can upgrade for a discounted price.

TLDR: Ableton Live 12 is a major update to the popular DAW, with new features like generative MIDI tools, global tuning, microtonal and non-western scales, new devices, and more. It’s also faster and more stable than previous versions. We will dive deeper once we get chance to test it out for ourselves.

Exciting new features:

  • Generative MIDI tools: Create new drum grooves, melodies, and chord progressions with the click of a button.
  • Global tuning: Set the key globally and have all clips and devices follow it.
  • Microtuning and non-western scales: Experiment with different musical scales and tunings.
  • New devices: Morphing bi-timbral synth Meld and multi-band distortion Roar.
  • GUI overhauled: View arrangement, mixer, devices, and clips simultaneously.
  • New browser workflow: Search with tags and find new sounds quickly through similarity search.

Community wishes fulfilled:

  • All-in-one screen: See everything in one place, without having to switch back and forth between different views.
  • Bounce-in-place: Freeze and flatten a track’s clips into audio with a single click.

Missing features:

  • No support for ARA, CLAP, or the new universal DAW file format DAWproject.
  • Still can’t freeze groups.
  • No dynamic EQ or vocal tuner.

Ableton Live 12 is a major update that makes the popular DAW even more powerful and versatile. It’s a must-have for any serious music producer.
