A different kind of sound is what Dubfire placed him in the top tier of electronic music while running his own label SCI+TEC. In 2024, a single vinyl brought pride to his country. Alinep, once hailed as Asia’s emerging underground DJ and music producer, delighted us with the release of his digital “FUTURA 101.”
The track “TALA,” meaning “Star” in Filipino, played a pivotal role in the relationship between Alinep and Dubfire. Their connection, which started with a 2015 performance in Manila, solidified when Dubfire began featuring Alinep’s track.
“This gave me an idea to submit demos to dubfire and he replied to me ‘sure and show me what you got” After months of sending and sending, trying and trying and getting all dubfire’s advice, he finally chose 3 tracks for the EP on January 17th.” Alinep stated.
Alinep’s achievement, releasing on Dubfire’s imprint, is a powerful testament: a Filipino artist breaking barriers, extending his reach from the UK to global techno. While Alinep’s relocation to the UK was initially difficult, it ultimately opened up significant opportunities within the European music scene.
Manchester’s vibrant nightlife unveiled a stark contrast for Alinep. Europe is known for their commendable club culture, with venues strictly dedicated to specific genres. In contrast, this is something that Manila can focus on; a lack of venues for underground house music and techno, relying only on promoters to create pop-up events. This revelation fueled his artistic evolution. Since his initial minimal releases in 2010, his music has transformed, embracing a harder, faster, and more hypnotic techno style. He now envisions his Dubfire label release as a catalyst, opening doors to global gigs and reigniting the touring momentum he enjoyed across Asia for the past decade.
Ultimately, who would have thought that a single, “Sipa” or “Kick” in Filipino, would kick a significant milestone for his techno label, Deepsomnia. This latest release, which hit the scene last year, is a sonic journey featuring remixes by the innovative Poetry KSS, the eclectic Mica (UK), and the legendary techno maestro Samuel L Session (SLS). This vinyl release is more than just a showcase of Alinep’s talent; it’s a tangible expression of his artistic mantra: ‘produce what you play, play what you produce,’ a testament to his authentic connection with his music.’
