Dádpuszta, Hungary – Chaos erupted on the opening day of the renowned Ozora Festival 2025, as a major fire tore through the event’s central marketplace on Friday, July 25. The incident, which resulted in multiple explosions and significant property damage, has cast a shadow over the start of the 11-day psychedelic gathering, but has also sparked an inspiring display of community resilience. 1
The Blaze and the Response
The fire originated in the early afternoon at an Asian food kiosk located opposite the main stage. Eyewitnesses and official reports suggest the blaze began when a gas cylinder overheated, which in turn ignited cooking oil. The situation escalated dramatically when staff reportedly attempted to use powder extinguishers on the grease fire, a move that can aerosolize burning oil and worsen the blaze.
The initial fire triggered a chain reaction, with multiple propane-butane gas cylinders at neighboring stalls exploding in sequence. The flames quickly spread, ultimately destroying over 250 square meters of the marketplace, including three vehicles, two trailers, and numerous vendor stalls and tents.
Emergency services, including professional firefighters from the nearby towns of Sárbogárd and Paks and volunteer crews from Simontornya, responded swiftly to the scene. Their efforts successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading further into the festival grounds. While no fatalities were reported, at least four people sustained minor injuries, primarily burns. 2

Livelihoods Lost and a Community United
The fire had a devastating impact on several artisan vendors, many of whom are long-standing members of the global psytrance community. Three shops in particular suffered a total loss:
- Plazmalab: The well-known psychedelic clothing and art brand lost its entire shop and mobile home, which contained 15 years of original art and equipment.
- Indian Project: A vendor specializing in handmade clothing, described as a “dream” and “lifework,” was completely consumed by the flames.
- Magic Dress Stand: The owner and her daughter lost everything, including their stand, rental car, cash, and personal documents like passports, leaving them stranded in Hungary.
In the wake of the destruction, the Ozorian community mobilized with remarkable speed. Festival organizers used their official social media channels to amplify the vendors’ stories and share links to dedicated GoFundMe campaigns. The response was immediate and global, with hundreds of donors contributing thousands of euros to help the vendors rebuild their livelihoods. 3
Official Investigation Underway
Hungarian authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident. The Fejér County Police Headquarters is examining the case for “negligent endangerment in the course of a profession,” which suggests that authorities are looking into potential breaches of safety regulations or professional duty of care.
Despite the fiery start, the festival is continuing, with organizers and attendees determined to move forward. The incident, while tragic, has powerfully highlighted the deep-seated solidarity of the Ozora community, which has rallied to support its own in a time of crisis.
