Skrillex’s Hair and Music Evolution

Is the new year inspiring a transformation? Skrillex’s recent hair change has sparked curiosity. We wonder about the journey that led him to make his distinctive hairstyle a defining part of his image, alongside his groundbreaking sound. Will OWSLA return in 2025?
Make this article talk.

For every person going through a change, one of which is the hair. As cliche as it may sound, the hair “symbolizes” a shift in personality or a phase in their life. But for different people, it may be a different message. As you can see more and more artist have gotten out of different phases in music and how they produce, maybe one’s own personal style can change as well. Who is a great example? Sonny Moore – aka Skrillex.

The hair is gone, replaced by a more subdued style, and his music has taken a dramatic turn, venturing into unexpected territories like emo and even venturing into the world of pop. Is it just a coincidence? Or does this stylistic shift, both on and off the stage, reflect a deeper evolution in Skrillex’s artistry?

The Hair: A Symbol of a Bygone Era?

For years, Skrillex’s hair was as much a part of his brand as his music. It was a visual representation of the raw energy and rebellious spirit that defined his early career. From a one-side undercut to a man-bun with beard, it’s something else. Even within the years he took those types of styles into apparent genre-digging tendencies. From years of releases from 2009, extended plays, and his Recess album at 2014, the bassy music somewhat reflects his overall style that is somewhat rebellious and revolutionary at the same time.

But with the emergence of his new sound from his album Quest For Fire released 2023 up to the present day, the hair seems to have fallen away, mirroring a shift in his overall aesthetic. In a recent post from Skrillex, he just just chopped off his bun. What could that possibly mean? Is this the of the comeback of OWSLA? Is there rebranding happening? We don’t know.

This isn’t to say that Skrillex is trying to reinvent himself entirely, but rather that he’s embracing a new chapter, one that demands a different kind of expression.

From Bass Bombs to Multi-Cultural Soundscaping

Skrillex’s music has always been characterized by its experimental nature, a willingness to push boundaries and defy expectations. However, his recent work has seen him delve deeper into uncharted territory, embracing elements of emo, pop, and even grime, while still retaining the core of his innovative production style.

This evolution is evident in his recent collaborations, which have seen him team up with artists from diverse backgrounds, further broadening his production style and tracks. About the hair, it might be pure coincidence, but from the way we see and interpret Skrillex’s change can mean a change is really bound to happen. We just don’t know what it is, but are we in it for the biggest surprise that Skrillex would offer in 2025?
