You might be happy to hear this if you’re still playing The Sims 4, but you might not be (if you enjoy creating characters manually). Recent information suggests that EA may be planning to allow users scan themselves into the world rather than manually creating characters with the assistance of artificial intelligence rather than building characters from scratch.
EA had filed the patent in April 2020, and it was approved in October 2021, which was a long time ago. According to the Sims Community, the feature will allow players to upload photographs of themselves or characters, which will then be converted into a realistic Sim. According to the patent, “the method comprises the steps of receiving an input image of a reference subject; processing the input image to generate a normalized image; and identification of a set of features present in the normalized image, wherein each feature in the set of features corresponds to a portion of a head or body of the reference subject.”
In addition, it’s worth noting that the first-generation The Sims has a similar feature, though it’s far from what we would expect it to be in this day and age with more advanced technology. Players can use the Sims Creator to place an image of a face onto a character model, which they can then interact with. The outcome might have been impressive at the time, but it’s now just plain strange to see.
