After a nearly three-day outage, Roblox has finally returned to normal operations. The developer of the gaming platform said it was “incrementally” restoring service to regions after identifying the root cause of the outage approximately three hours before the announcement. It was on October 30th that the company identified a potential candidate, but it was not narrowed down until the following day.
The company did not provide a specific reason for the shutdown, but had previously ruled out specific “experiences or partnerships.” A Chipotle promotion that began about half an hour before the failure occurred on the evening of October 28th was being held responsible by some for the outage.
Whatever the cause of the outage, it is possible that it will have a long-term impact. Roblox has more than 40 million daily users and has been the site of major concerts in the recent past. More than a few dissatisfied children, not to mention their parents and creators, may be left wondering about the platform’s long-term dependability.
