Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo’s colorful, character-filled island life simulator, lends itself well to merchandise collaborations. Immediately following the release of its Uniqlo and Monopoly crossovers, the game will now receive the footwear treatment as well. Featuring sneakers and apparel, Puma is releasing an Animal Crossing collection in collaboration with Nintendo. With an image that featured both the Puma and Animal Crossing logos, the company teased the release of the new collection on Twitter. Later, Nintendo shared the teaser on Twitter with the caption, “Something exciting is on the horizon.”
After a short period of time, images of the collaboration began to circulate online. The Animal Crossing x PUMA Wild Rider silhouette can be seen above, courtesy of Sneaker Freaker. According to reports, more sneakers are on the way. Animal Crossing World, a fan site dedicated to the crossover, also posted an image of a hoodie from it. The colors of the collection are predominantly pastel blues and greens, with light and dark browns added to the sneakers to give it a natural feel.
It’s no surprise that Puma has teamed up with the tranquil game to create a new collection. Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons has proven to be a tremendous success. According to some estimates, it was the third most popular video game sold in 2020, and it continues to draw new players to the franchise today.
In the past, collaborations between the gaming and fashion industries have been a mixed bag. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether you’d be more at home in Nike’s League of Legends collection or Adidas and Ninja’s sneaker collection. Puma has previously released a Mario-themed collaboration as well as a Sonic-themed clothing line.
