Panic announced last month that the Playdate, a little gaming portable with a crank, would finally be available for pre-order in July, but did not specify what day this would be on the calendar. It has, however, done so now. In a recent announcement, the business stated that you would be able to pre-order the Playdate for $179 starting on July 29th at 1pm ET.
Additionally, the Playdate Cover, a purple protective cover for the portable, will be available for pre-order for $29, and will be available for delivery in the fall. The Playdate and Cover combo, which is priced at $199, is a better value if you’re planning on purchasing both games at the same time. The recently announced Playdate Stereo Dock, on the other hand, is not yet available for pre-order because it is still in the development stage. It represents a quadruple danger. It adds credit to your Playdate. It looks fantastic displayed on your desk. It’s a Bluetooth® stereo speaker system. It’s also a pen holder, complete with a good pen.
According to a press statement, Panic has stated that the first batch of Playdate units, which is expected to number approximately 20,000, would begin delivering by the end of the calendar year. Following the sale of this initial allotment, the company will begin shipping additional orders in 2022. Customer service representatives also wanted to reassure customers that the Playdate will never be “sold out,” and that instead, they will simply have to wait in line as the output is changed based on demand.
Pre-orders will demand payment in advance, although Panic says they can be canceled at any moment for a full refund if the purchase is not fulfilled. Orders are restricted to a maximum of two units per individual. The Playdate will initially be available for purchase in the following countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland, with additional countries to be added later. It is also looking at the possibility of selling the gadgets in Malaysia, where the manufacturing facility is based. Duties and taxes will be included in the shipping charges for international orders.
If you still can’t get enough of Playdate, Panic has also announced that it will launch a new Playdate-focused podcast next week, which will provide you with a plethora of backstory and information about the small portable gaming device.
