It certainly feels like the 90s again with how much Pokémon has been in the news lately. Steve Aoki has always been a fan of pop culture crossovers, and with his latest charitable endeavor, he has gone all-in on the craze. In a charity box break event called “Pokémon Saves The World,” he and other prominent members of the Pokémon community will raise $1 million for a good cause next month. Gary “King Pokémon,” the hosts of Dumb Money, and other prominent members of the Pokémon community will also participate.
If you are unfamiliar with box breaks or trading cards in general, participants will bid on spots in the auction that will represent packs of cards in the sealed boxes, which will be explained below. The fact that the boxes included are from the 1990s means that they are extremely valuable and can contain cards that are worth tens of thousands of dollars each. The winners of the bidding will be invited to an invitation-only party where the cards will be opened and graded if they so desire after the auction concludes.
A wide range of charities from around the world, including pediatrics, autism awareness, educational advocacy, and others, will benefit from the collaboration of the international dance music superstar and organizers. Obviously, his charitable organization, the Aoki Foundation, is included on this list.
The event will take place on October 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. PDT at Airstream Park in Las Vegas and will be open to invite-only guests. The live stream for the box break, on the other hand, will begin at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 6:30 p.m. (also in PDT). DJ James Kennedy and comedian Robert Hudson will perform at the event, which is open to the public. There will also be a meet and greet, as well as Pokémon tarot card readings.
