MALAYSIAN GAME ‘RYTHM DOCTOR’ TOPS STEAM CHARTS

Whether we like it or not, we gamers are obsessed with ratings, especially when it comes to how our favorite pieces of media are rated by our peers.

A significant part of the game purchasing process has become the reading of user reviews, with these bite-sized ratings serving as an excellent indicator of a game’s overall quality.

Those who have purchased a game on Steam have had the ability to leave a review for other users to see since the beginning of the platform.

Therefore, it is only natural for gamers to be interested in knowing which games received the highest ratings during a given year. SteamDB, a non-affiliated third-party database, comes into play in this situation.

SteamDB collects and organizes a variety of data from Steam, ranging from the weekly top sellers to notifying gamers when a specific Steam sale is taking place.

As part of their end-of-year breakdowns, SteamDB has revealed the top-rated Steam games of 2021, which include a diverse range of indie game experiences from around the world.

The first game on that list is Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, which, as the name suggests, has players reenacting massive battles with everything from spartans to woolly mammoths to the legendary Sun Wukong warrior.

After that, there’s Dyson Sphere Program, a space tycoon game that allows you to shape the universe to your specifications. For both of these games, users have given them an average rating of 96 percent positive feedback, which is an incredible achievement for most indie games.

We have the underdog, a complete surprise in the grand scheme of things, in third place: Rhythm Doctor, the one-button rhythm game developed by Malaysian studio 7th Beat Games, which came in third place.

It is remarkable that Rhythm Doctor has received a 95 percent rating from users, despite having a much smaller development team than the first two entries. Over 13,000 users have given the game a thumbs up, making it the most popular game in Southeast Asia.

The fact that Rhythm Doctor is still in Early Access on Steam means that it is not yet a fully-featured game, but that hasn’t stopped it from gaining international recognition and a large following of players all over the world.

Firework, Cookie Clicker, The Room 4, PowerWash Simulator, Townscaper, Tiny Bunny, and Before Your Eyes are among the top ten games according to SteamDB’s findings, which also include Before Your Eyes.

Hopefully, more Southeast Asian games will reach the heights of Rhythm Doctor in 2022, and fewer will fall to the depths of Battlefield 2042 and eFootball 2022, which were the two lowest rated games in 2021 despite being triple-A titles, respectively.
