Ń7Ä TOUCHES ON K-HOUSE NUANCES FOR WHISKY CAT’S NEW SINGLE

In her own world of house and techno, Taiwanese artist Ń7ä has developed an undeniable affinity for natural sounds.

“Happiness Is Overrated,” which she co-wrote with Whisky Cat, the vocalist for local electronic band The Girl and The Robots, and 方Q, the bassist for Cosmospeople, explores the unrealistic expectations of happiness and positivity held by mainstream society at times. “Happiness Is Overrated” is available now on iTunes and Spotify.

“Society continues to advocate for everyone to be happy, to be optimistic, and to not allow any negative emotions to exist. However, it turns out that people have to be stressed in order to be happy,” Whisky Cat explains. “I believe that it is acceptable to be uncomfortable as long as you are able to communicate effectively with yourself and maintain your own pace and flow.”

While ‘Happiness Is Overrated’ rides on a contemplative yet uplifting mood, it also features a shuffling house beat that keeps things moving. The soulful tune evokes vocal nuances that are similar to those of the K-house that we’ve been hearing from artists such as Yaeji and Peggy Gou in recent weeks.

Ń7ä has always come across as an ambient-inclined artist, but she’s always managed to touch on electronic areas like house and techno while maintaining a sense of global aesthetic — (meaning, not your typical Berlin sound) in the process. As a Taiwanese artist, she has quickly gained recognition through awards such as the Golden Indie Music Awards’ Best Electronic Music in Taiwan, which she has won on two separate occasions.

A collaboration with illustrator (Little Oil Art) is also featured in her latest release with Whisky Cat and , which also features a music video directed by Whisky Cat and 方Q.

The new single from Ń7ä, Whisky Cat, and 方Q, titled “Happiness Is Overrated,” is available now. Take a listen to the recording below.
