Riot Games is reportedly working on a mobile version of Valorant, which will be released later this year. The company is riding the mobile wave.
While that project is still in the early stages, NetEase, a Chinese video game developer, has recently released its own mobile tactical shooter, Hyper Front, which is currently available for download. Moreover, at first glance, the game appears to be a strikingly similar to Valorant.
Pre-registrations for the 5v5 mobile tactical shooter were opened yesterday, according to the organizers. The game developer also released a trailer that showcased the characters and abilities of the Hyper Front team members.
On the surface, the characters in the game appear to be equipped with abilities that are similar to those of the agents in Valorant.
There are some similarities between the characters and Valorant’s roster, but there are also some differences. Initially, Valorant players may believe that the maps and gameplay of Hyper Front are identical to those of the PC game. This is not necessarily the case. However, that is about the extent of the similarities between the two situations.
The game’s gameplay is unique in that it exists in its own world. Instead of holding angles like Valorant, the game presents a run-and-gun gameplay experience similar to Call of Duty, but with the addition of abilities to enhance the experience.
Riot Games has not issued a statement regarding Hyper Front as of the time of writing, but the situation raises the possibility that they are considering legal action.
Riot Games had previously sued Moonton’s parent company Tencent for copyright infringement, claiming that the latter’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a knockoff of the popular League of Legends video game franchise.
