HERE ARE 5 NEW STEAM GAMES THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

We’ll go through every new game on Steam so that you don’t have to.

On Steam, approximately a dozen new games are released every day on average. While we believe this is a positive development, we recognize that it can be difficult to keep up with. You will almost certainly miss out on potentially exciting gems in the deluge of new things to play unless you go through every single game that is released on Steam. So that’s exactly what we’ve tried to accomplish. If nothing else piques your interest this week, we’ve compiled a list of games that will be released this year.

RIMS RACING

Release:‌ August 19
Developer:‌ Raceward Studio
Launch price:‌ ‌$45 |‌ ‌£36 ‌|‌ ‌AU$62.95
Download it here

The RIMS Racing game is another ambitious attempt to bring realistic two-wheel racing to the PC. If the Moto GP games aren’t serious enough for you, RIMS Racing is another option. When compared to Milestone’s series, we can’t speak for its racing, but RIMS adds an entirely new dimension to the sim, namely an engineering component that allows you to get your hands dirty with performance optimization. Along with the expected features such as a career mode and a nice mix of familiar circuits (Silverstone, Nürburgring) as well as road routes in exotic locations such as Australia and Spain, there’s also a multiplayer mode.

CONQUEST OF ELYSIUM 5

Release:‌ August 17
Developer:‌ Illwinter Game Design
Launch price:‌ $25.49 ‌|‌ ‌£20.22 |‌ ‌AU$36.50
Download it here

Six years after the conclusion of the previous Conquest of Elysium installment comes this new installment in the turn-based strategy roguelike franchise. These games have a devoted following, but to the uninitiated, it can be difficult to tell the difference between the various installments. With each playable race demanding a different approach, the overall gist of this game appears to be “more and better,” which can only be a good thing for an RPG that combines so many different gameplay styles into one package. If you’re looking for a powerful anecdote generator that offers virtually limitless replayability, you should take a look at this.

WRESTLEDUNK SPORTS

Release:‌ ‌August 21
Developer:‌ Team Fractal Alligator
Launch price:‌ ‌$11.69 |‌ ‌£9 |‌ ‌AU$13.50
Download it here

This is a collection of amusing competitive sports games created by the same person who created Hacknet. It certainly strikes a different tone from Hacknet’s austere terminal-based gameplay: you’ll be able to compete in sports such as wrestling, fencing, and ‘smashball’ both online and locally (surely a future Olympic sport). Up to eight players can participate, and the rollback netcode should ensure that the online competition runs as smoothly as possible. For those who enjoy stuff like Sportsfriends, this appears to be an absolute must-have.

MAYHEM BRAWLER

Release:‌ August 19
Developer:‌ Hero Concept
Launch price:‌ $20 ‌|‌ ‌£15.49 |‌ ‌‌AU$28.95
Download it here

On occasion, all you want to do is bash a bunch of muscly thugs around on a 2D plane. Due to popular demand, the indie game Mayhem Brawler has been developed to meet this need. With its bright comic book stylings and distinct 1990s action mood, it successfully captures the arcade beat ’em up spirit. Local three-player cooperative play is supported, and there are “three unique endings,” which suggests that there is some sort of narrative to the game. However, you’ll likely spend the majority of your time annihilating the 30 enemy types on your way to the game’s 12 boss encounters.

LILITH ODYSSEY

Release:‌ ‌August 21
Developer:‌ Chaystar Unlimited LLC
Launch price:‌ ‌$15.39 ‌|‌ ‌£11.92 ‌|‌ ‌AU$22.29
Download it here

The premise of this Early Access sim is intriguing: you take control of an alien family as they navigate a vast galaxy in search of a safe planet to call home. Because of the size of the galaxy, you’ll have to land on planets that you’d normally avoid in order to obtain fuel and resources; you should also expect resistance from the locals. Lilith Odyssey is described as having “casual flight sim mechanics” by developer Studio Chaystar, so don’t expect a steep learning curve in that area, as the game appears to be more about exploration and survival. The Early Access period is expected to last approximately one year, during which time the studio will continue to improve and expand the game.
