A record player is perceived to play the records lying flat – while the music is churning out melodiously – under normal circumstances. There is nothing in the design world that cannot be challenged in terms of the existing perception of design elements, and the same can be said for the good old vinyl players. The TT-90 System, which is mounted on the wall, and the o-ton turntable are excellent examples of the kind of innovative thinking that we always seem to appreciate.
Daniel Visintainer’s Asenso Vertical Record Player is yet another eye-catching record player that you’ll want to display in your living room or geeky den filled with Star Wars memorabilia and high-end gaming equipment. As if that association wasn’t relevant enough, please accept my apologies; I tend to get carried away at times! Now, returning to the record player in this image, the designer has added a subtle touch of modernity to the good old vinyl player, which we typically associate with our grandfather’s musical fantasies. Yes, record players have a large number of admirers, and for good reason: the audio produced is of high quality, with no loss of frequencies, just as the producer intended. When you compare that to the modern digital formats, you’ll see the difference.
The vertical approach taken by the designer for Asenso is both practical and commercially viable for the audiophile market, as demonstrated by the company’s success. The large chunky buttons located directly above where the record player is installed give the audio equipment a decidedly modern technological bent. There is a large power On/Off button, as well as a Play/Pause button and a Needle Release button – all of these additions add a sense of coolness to the overall design of the device. The knobs for the mids, bass, and treble are all on one side, just like on any other modern music player, which is convenient. Even better, the cord on the bottom section is movable for one reason: the vertical record player can be used horizontally as well as vertically, which is convenient. Just like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X gaming consoles, for example!
