[Exclusive Interview] John Odin & Razor Cult Release Collaborative EP “Tenth Circle”

This is the second time Oliver Queen has been aboard for a remix (with Odin), how did you guys get acquainted? He certainly gels well with your tunes.

J : Asia Music has been kind enough to seek out an artist that fit well into our machine. Steve was an absolute monster in creating this remix. He’s a dear friend of the legends Ryan Pamatmat and Pav Parrotte, head honchos at the label.

How do you want people to experience this EP?

J : Various promos and launch shows have been done in its stead, we’re hoping it gets the traction it deserves when released. Club setup is best – you guys really need to hear this live.

M : I also hope the listeners grasp the narrative aspect. I think there’s a real opportunity in electronic music to have a purpose and intention beyond shelf life. Electronic music has so much potential for expression and challenging boundaries – that being said, there’s hardly a place better suited to experience this music than in a dark warehouse with a good sound system.

It’s clear you two are both confident in your sound, where do you see yourselves bringing it to? Any dream stages, cities on the bucket list?

J : It’d be an absolute dream to be wherever Mike is and just rip the shit out our set b2b with this EP. Doesn’t matter whether it’s an intimate setup or a massive stage.

M : Likewise! I miss playing with John and would love to throw down anywhere in the world. Sound-wise, we will always do what we love while trying to push boundaries. This EP saw us experiment with granular and other new forms of synthesis, and should continue to find its way into our future collaborations.

What are some genres or artists outside of techno and dance music that you find yourselves vibing to recently? Anything from easy listening to inspo for your own tunes.

J :  DARKWAVE. SYNTHWAVE.

M : Within the electronic spectrum I listen to a lot of industrial and dark ambient. Artists such as Maenad Veyl, Restive Plaggona, Roly Porter, Abul Mogard, Lorn, Emptyset and Surachai to name a few. And I used to be in bands before I was ever a DJ, so groups such as Health, Humanity’s Last Breath, Infant Annihilator and Lorna Shore.

Tenth Circle is the collaborative EP from techno producers John Odin and Mikhail Arce-Ignacio a.k.a. Razor Cult, two dark forces who have combined their shared interest in the macabre and occult. The EP showcases their strengths as both artists and friends, creating a balance between creating music for the dancefloor and for the sake of art. The addition of Oliver Queen for a remix was a perfect fit, and they hope listeners experience the EP in a dark warehouse with a good sound system. As for their future, they see themselves continuing to push boundaries and experimenting with new forms of synthesis. Outside of techno and dance music, they find themselves vibing to darkwave, synthwave, industrial, and dark ambient genres.

The Tenth Circle EP is OUT NOW and available on Beatport and Spotify.
