EA Is Apparently Working on a ‘Black Panther’ Open-World Video Game

This is what journalist Jeff Grubb claims, who described the next game in great detail on a Twitch stream. Grubb provided a sneak peek at some of the information, when the teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

The Black Panther video game is now in the early stages of development and is being worked on by a new company that has yet to be named. Former Vice President of Monolith Productions Kevin Stephens is leading the team, and their EA studio was verified to be legitimate last year (via, GamesIndustry.biz).

After the death of the previous Black Panther, the player assumes the role of the new one in an open-world single-player game. As the leader of Monolith Studios throughout the production of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Stephens is already well familiar with the fantasy role-playing game genre.

This new Black Panther game seems to take place in an entirely new universe, and as such, it is not tied to either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Marvel’s Avengers, both of which have featured Black Panther-related content in the past. Because the game is still in its early stages of production, it is quite doubtful that we will learn very lot about it or see any gameplay footage for quite some time.

When Kevin Stephens’ new studio was revealed in 2021, EA Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele had this to say about him: “Kevin is an extraordinarily gifted game development leader, and we look forward to supporting him while he creates his team. Because he is recognized for creating open-world action-adventure games, we are confident that fans will be eagerly awaiting additional information about this new studio and the projects it will be working on.”
