In North and South America, BLACKPINK: THE VIRTUAL will take place over the course of two consecutive weekends, first between July 22 and 23, and then again between July 29 and 30. For the remaining countries, the event will run from the 23rd to the 24th of July, and then it will run again from the 30th to the 31st of July.
At this point, it is not clear what the BLACKPINK intends to do for the virtual performance they will be giving. Fans are strongly encouraged to download the game before this Friday in order to have a chance at winning free concert tickets that can be used in-game (July 15). The “concert resource pack” will be made available for purchase the day after tomorrow.
The upcoming concert by BLACKPINK will be the first in-game concert hosted by PUBG Mobile; however, in-game concerts in general have seen a surge in popularity over the past few years. In the world of Fortnite, artists such as Ariana Grande and Travis Scott have given virtual performances. In the world of Roblox, artists such as Lil Nas X and Royal Blood have hosted concerts.
BLACKPINK dropped a hint about their upcoming comeback earlier this month, suggesting that they would be releasing new music as well as going on a world tour this year. According to a press release issued by the band’s record label, YG Entertainment, the group is currently “in the final stages of recording a new album.”
It was also mentioned that there would be new music released the following month, marking the beginning of “a continuous large-scale project that will extend through the second half of the year.” The members of the band, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, issued their first studio album, titled “THE ALBUM,” in the year 2020. They have not issued any new music together as a group since then.
In addition, the press release stated that an international tour would take place later on in this year, claiming that it would be the “largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group.”
Back in April, reports stated that a new BLACKPINK album could arrive “as early as June,” which sparked rumors that the group was getting ready to make their comeback. YG has shot down rumors that the group will release new music so soon, but he has confirmed that the group is working on making plans for a comeback.
