A TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE GAME MAY BE COMING SOON

Game publisher Gun Media is rumored to be developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game that will feature horror icon Leatherface.

In terms of horror movie video game adaptations, Friday the 13th: The Game is unquestionably among the best of the bunch, and it’s one of the most popular titles on the market. While the asymmetric multiplayer horror game didn’t exactly set the world on fire, it is still an impressive love letter to the Friday the 13th franchise, featuring a slew of memorable characters and locations, as well as a plethora of Jason Voorhees skins that will please fans of the film franchise. A new rumor making the rounds on the internet suggests that another classic slasher movie franchise will be given the Friday the 13th treatment in the near future, though fans should temper their expectations accordingly.

According to the rumor, Friday the 13th: The Game publisher Gun Media could be involved with a video game based on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. Users discovered that visiting leatherfacethegame.com redirects them to the Gun Media website, which sparked the rumor that began spreading. To be clear, it should be noted that it is entirely possible that someone completely unrelated to Gun Media purchased the leatherfacethegame.com domain and is redirecting it to Gun Media in an attempt to troll Gun Media fans. Needless to say, fans of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre should proceed with caution before becoming overly excited about the prospect of a Leatherface video game being developed.

The possibility that this Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is a hoax exists, but it would not be surprising if it turned out to be the real deal in the long run. It would make sense for Gun Media to pursue a project along the lines of Friday the 13th: The Game, which was a commercial success for the company. A video game release would also allow for some cross-promotion with the upcoming release of a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film on Netflix, which would be an added bonus.

In addition to the comments made by actor Kane Hodder about the “leaked” Leatherface Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game, there are some other factors working in its favor. In addition to playing Jason Voorhees in various Friday the 13th films, Hodder recently revealed that he has been working on motion capture work for a new horror game based on a different horror franchise, which was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Hodder did not specify which horror franchise he was working on motion capture for, but if the rumored Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game is true, it is possible that this is the case.

This rumor is at least somewhat credible because the rights holders to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise have already expressed an interest in bringing Leatherface to video games. Leatherface has made cameo appearances in video games such as Mortal Kombat X and Dead by Daylight, in addition to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from the 1980s. Most recently, the Call of Duty: Warzone Halloween event featured Leatherface’s house, and the character was made available as a skin that could be used in both Warzone and Modern Warfare, according to the game’s official website.

Fans should keep an eye out for news on the horror game Kane Hodder has been working on and what Gun Media has in store next.

At this point, the existence of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game is only rumored.
